Mindfulness Challenge 2017

True Peace is delighted to be a Community Partner in Mindfulness Challenge 2017, a "meditate-athon" to raise funds to bring mindfulness to marginalized people.

When: Sunday, Oct 15

Where: Daniels Spectrum, Toronto
MacLachlan College, Oakville
Virtual - anywhere you wish to gather!

It's a 4-hour meditation extravaganza, from sitting, to yoga, to mindful lunch, to total relaxation, to mindful movement and music meditation. The theme this year is Kindness.

Last year's participants said:
  • "A deeply rewarding act of compassion.” – Felix Almeida
  • “An incredible and uplifting experience” – Paul Sobocinski
  • “It was a lovely reward -- I find it hard to do fundraising, and don't enjoy it, but the cause really mattered to me. On the day, instead of feeling like I'd lost most of the day, I felt like I'd given myself, and received from others, a real gift.” - Jacqui Pegg
  • “Powerful, beautiful, extremely well thought out” - Jolene
  • “What this program is doing for the world is so needed. It is truly moving mental wellness in an amazing direction." - Angela Kontgen

Namo Avalokiteshvara Chant

On Monday September 25th, True Peace Sangha Toronto did a sing-along/chant-along of Namo Avalokiteshvara (have compassion on me, listen to my sufferings, have compassion on those loved ones around me, listen to their sufferings, have compassion in the world, listen to all suffering) together, sending Mettā (benevolence, loving-kindness) to all beings including those impacted by the events in Myanmar.

Meditation practice Friday 6 October, 2017

Our teacher, Thay, will be celebrating his 91st continuation day soon and so we will be having a special practice session this Friday Oct. 6th at our usual location and time (JCC from 6:45-8:45pm).
This will be an opportunity for us to water seeds of gratitude within our hearts and put into effect an aspiration that is speaking to us at this time.  We invite you at some point over the next few days to reflect on two things:
  • Gratitude: how has Thay and the teachings helped you?
  • Aspiration: what is one concrete practice that you can and would like to commit to as a gift to Thay?  He has expressed his preference for the gift of practice over material gifts :)
If you feel inspired to do so, please write them down and bring them with you on Friday. We wish to collect and mail them to Thay along with a group photo that we will take at the end of the evening.
In addition to our weekly practices, our evening together may also include practices such as Touching the Earth, reciting the 5 Mindfulness Trainings, and learning/singing a practice song that may be new to many: 'Watering Seeds of Joy.'
